Legion in the Community

The Royal British Legion in Derbyshire plays an active role in the local community, and we rely on the help of our members to carry out our work in their local areas. There are many ways people can help and become involved, and it is essential to our work for the ex-Service community.  We are also an active membership organisation, and invite everyone, whether they are ex-Service or not, to become a member.

In 2003 the Legion carried out a review which recommended that an initiative called, Legion in the Community (LIC) be instigated at Branch and County level to give exciting new opportunities for everyone to get involved in Legion work within their local communities.

The aims and objectives of this initiative are to raise public awareness of what the Legion does in local communities, to promote the Legion as an active membership organisation and to invite local people to get involved with welfare and membership activities of the Legion.

After a successful pilot scheme, Legion in the Community was fully incorporated into the Legion way of life. New publicity materials and information about the Legion have been produced and made available to Counties, Branches and Volunteers.

Today, Legion in the Community continues to grow and evolve with more and more Counties, Branches, Members and Volunteers raising awareness of The Royal British Legion through various events and activities such as:

County Shows
Local Fetes/Fairs
Open Evenings
Concerts
Veterans Day (now Armed Forces Day)
Attending Carnivals, Military Air Shows and Military Open Days

Plus many, many more ……

How to get involved

If you would like to get involved in any of the Legion in the Community activities, you can!  We are always looking for new members and volunteers to get involved in our fundraising and welfare work.

Alternatively, you may be interested in getting involved in one of the many Legion in the Community vents or social activities held throughout the year.

Whether you are Serving, ex-Service or have no links with the Regular Armed Forces or Reserves, The Royal British Legion always gives new members and volunteers a warm and friendly welcome.
