At a presentation ceremony on the steps of the
County Hall, Matlock on Monday 7th
December 2009
a cheque for £1,300.00 was presented
Bernard Page, County
Chairman of Derbyshire Royal British Legion. The money was
collected by forty
County Councillors who joined forces to support the County's
Servicemen and Servicewomen. They each made
donations and in addition Councillor Robin
Baldry added an amount of money from his Chairman’s Fund.
In return for the donation The Royal British Legion gave
wreathes for the Councillors to lay at
war memorials across
the County at Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Councillor Baldry said: “We are committed to showing our
appreciation of the armed forces, past and present. We
introduced a memorial service at our County Hall headquarters this
year and we are planning a special military parade and march past
next year to celebrate our armed forces”.
Councillors from all parties made donations and the wreathes were
laid across Derbyshire - paying respect to the brave men and women
who have given their lives in conflicts across the globe.
Bernard Page said: “We are delighted to have the support of the
County Council to provide help to our armed forces. The
donated money will help support the ex-Service community in the
county".
