Veterans - Heroes Return 2

Heroes Return 2 has been set up to help Veterans commemorate the anniversaries of events that led to the end of the Second World War. It is aimed at those Veterans who saw active service with, or alongside, the British and Allied Armed Forces during the Second World War.

The Big Lottery Fund will make fixed sum grants towards the travel and accommodation costs (including insurance) of commemorative visits to the areas where British Armed Forces saw active service during the Second World War and to attend recognised commemorative services in the UK. The grants will be available for each Veteran, or the Widows or Widowers of Veterans, A contribution will also will also be made to spouses’ and carers’ travel and accommodation costs. So that as many Veterans as possible get this opportunity, the Big Lottery Fund can only fund one visit for each Veteran, Widow or Widower.

The visits must take place between 1 April 2009 and 31 December 2010. The Big Lottery Fund can make a grant even if you have already booked or you have paid for your trip, provided that you travelled or are planning to travel between those dates. Applications must be made before 31 January 2011.

There are different amounts of money being offered by the Big Lottery Fund depending on the different destinations, they will pay for a maximum of two additional people (spouse and/or carer) to accompany any Veteran, Widow or Widower. Grants will normally be awarded to Veterans’ organisations to arrange visits on behalf of groups of Veterans but will consider applications from small groups or individuals. If there are more than 10 people travelling an additional grant of £250 can be made to cover the cost of organising the visit.
