Medals, Badges and Emblems

Many Veterans are entitled to wear campaign medals and never received them although the vast majority of Service personnel receive their campaign medals whilst they are still in the Armed Forces.  If, however an individual leaves the Armed Forces before the medal is issued, it is his or her responsibility to claim them from the Ministry of Defence Medal Office. As a result, there are still many Veterans who have not received the medals to which they are entitled.

Veterans who are ex-Service personnel are also entitled to wear the UK Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge.  Veterans who were Merchant Seafarers or Fishermen serving in a vessel at a time when it was operated to facilitate military operations by UK Armed Forces at any time prior to 31 December 1994 are also entitled to wear the UK Merchant Seafarers Veteran's Badge.

From 1st August 2009 the Next of Kin (or their legal successors) of UK Armed Forces personnel who have died on operations or as a result of an act of terrorism in national recognition of their loss and sacrifice will be eligible to receive the Elizabeth Cross and/or the Memorial Scroll.
