HELP FOR THOSE IN URGENT NEED
The welfare of women who served, or are wives or widows of Servicemen or their dependants is very much The Royal British Legion's concern. The Women's Section has a number of programmes where financial assistance and other services are available to both women and men.
For the wives and widows of ex-Servicemen and for widowers who live alone and struggle to get by on the lowest possible income, or are in real hardship owing to age, ill health or other difficulties, the Women's Section can grant a small weekly allowance to make life comfortable.
The Women's Section also does its best to help widows retain their dignity in other small but important ways. For example, we can renew TV licences, give birthday cards and Christmas cards and provide vouchers and funds to meet extra expenses during the festive season.
If you feel you may be eligible for help under the Women's Section Allowance scheme, you can get more information by contacting the Women's Section by sending an email to women@britishlegion.org.uk
The Women's Section is committed to helping the children of serving and ex-Service men and women. The Grants we are able to give to dependant children, who are experiencing financial hardship, mean that they don't feel different from their friends. Grants are available for school clothing, activities such as music lessons, sports training and school trips. In special cases a weekly allowance may be considered.
Significant educational scholarships and grants are also available to those at college or re-training to return to work.
If you feel you may be eligible for help under the Women's Section's Children's Fund or the Educational Sponsorship scheme's, you can get more information by contacting the Women's Section by sending an email to women@britishlegion.org.uk
The Royal British Legion Women's Section provides Rest and Convalescence Breaks in approved hotels and guest houses around the country. A recent extension to the scheme is to a retirement complex in Southern Spain. Full costs for the client and half-costs for a carer are paid in all cases.
The Rest and Convalescence Breaks enable ex-Servicewomen, wives or widows of ex-Servicemen or divorced or separated wives of ex-Servicemen to spend a relaxing and enjoyable one or two week break. Guests may need a break for many reasons including pre or post hospitalisation, coming to terms with bereavement or suffering from a terminal condition.
If you feel you may be eligible for a Rest and Convalescence Break, you can get more information by contacting the Women's Section by sending an email to
